The Way to Start Film School

Today was our orientation at FAMU. We all got stuck in the elevator...including our professor Pavel Marek. Way to go us.

I think I'm going to stay away from elevators for a while.

Things I Want to Accomplish While Abroad

Improve my Arabic skills a lot.
Work on a film...somehow.
See a football game live.
See the pyramids, and as many sites as I possibly can see.
Learn to cook Egyptian food.
Participate in a service project.
Get lost and find my way back
See the TV tower
See a concert
Go to a play
See castles
Shop!
Make new friends

Things I've Done

Swam and paddle boated on the Mediterranean Sea.
Went to Alexandria, saw the monuments and the library!
Survived mid-terms week.
Participated in a focus group on studying abroad.
Spent the night under the stars in the Black and White Desert.
Began work with the Access Program.
Went out to desert with Dr. Magda.
Went to Muquattam Hill.
Visited Mu'izz Street in Islamic Cairo.
Bought new camera!
Explored Shubra, Zamalek and Heliopolis.
Went to Mohamed Ali Pasha's summer palace.
Watched the Oscars live!
Got an internship with Past Preservers!
Saw "And It Isn't Even Tuesday Yet".
Attended an Egyptian Wedding Party.
Dipped my feet in the Mediterrean Sea.
SUVed through the desert, climbed a dune, "sandsledded", and learned the purpose of a scarf in the desert.
Learned some new card games!
Saw the Old Shali city, the Temple of the Oracle, the Temple of Amun, Cleopatra's Bath and the sunset over the Oasis.
Learned to use a "squat toilet".
Saw El Alamein.
Took a 12 hour bus ride to Siwa and back again.
Had an Egyptian cooking lesson.
Got to go inside the tomb of King Teti and the Red Pyramid!
Visited Saqqara, Dahshur, and Memphis.
Went and danced at "French Club".
Had a tour of the Egyptian Museum.
Saw press conference with Zahi Hawass about Tutenkamen.
Arabic movie night, dialogue sessions and lectures! Provided by AMIDEAST!
Finished reading "Darkly Dreaming Dexter".
Went and explored City Stars Mall.
Enjoyed a "make-shift" Valentine's Day party.
Hung out at Al-Azhar Park.
Went on a tour of Islamic Cairo.
Celebrated my 21st birthday!
Had lots of koshary!
Saw Egypt win the Africa cup!
Began new classes.
Saw the pyramids at Giza.
Went to Islamic Cairo and navigated the open air market.
Saw Egypt win in the Africa Cup Semi-Finals against rival Algeria.
Completed the Cairo Amazing Race...came in last though...
Had Yemeni food and fun with the Arabic teachers.
Saw Egypt win in the Africa Cup Quarter Finals against Cameroon.
Successfully navigated back to my apartment.
Went on a diner cruise down the Nile.
Took a neighborhood tour.
Experienced Cairo traffic.
Arrived safely back in New York after 4 months of being away.
Was an illegal immigrant for 9 hours.
Finished shopping for gifts.
Screened film with professors for feedback and with actual audience.
Finished season 4 of Dexter!
Color graded my film!
Celebrated Czech Christmas!
Went to the FAMU party.
Designed costumes for Jacob's movie.
Finished R.U.R.
Finished editing movie.
Did blood spatter work from Drew and Tarek.
Had a Czech/American Thanksgiving!
Finished filming short film!
Worked on a feature length film as the clapboard girl.
Saw 2012.
Went to Petřin and Vyšehrad with Geoff
Made a photo storyboard for our movie!
Ate in the dining car on a train
Met Geoff in Berlin!
Went to Berlin and got to see the Wall, the Reichstag, the Freedom Festival and Brandenburg Gate, plus more!
Went to Kutna Hora and took a tour of the silver mines and the bone church
Celebrated Halloween with a party!
Took a tour of the Jewish Quarter
Went to Vienna and saw ALOT of stuff.
Finished seasons 1,2 &3 of Dexter.
Went to the Lookout Tower and Mirror Maze
Saw Surrogates
Learned to light scenes and how to correctly use a light meter
Got lost at Krematorium Motol
Saw the Dodgers-Phillies Game in a Prague Sports Bar
Saw "The Marriage of Figaro" at the Estates Theatre
Successfully pitched story
Had a "swimming pool"
Sort of went to a jazz club
Made schnitzel and eggplant...yum!
Had Chinese Food
Sang Karaoke at Friends
Played a Czech card game and 1000 Blank White Cards
Danced at Club Cross
Took an Off the Beaten Path Tour
Had a "Wine and Cheese Party"
Finished the Utena series
Finished reading "World War Z"
Seen all of Prague stop running due to a black out!
Finished draft 1 of script with Kris
Picked out elective classes
Really enjoyed fried Camembert with blueberries
Went to the Turkish baths
Walked the Chain Bridge
Saw Hero's Square, Buda Castle, Matthias Church, the Medieval Synagoge, the Fisherman's Bastian, the Terror museum, Parliament, and the Opera house
Stayed at a hostel for the first time
Traveled to Budapest by TRAIN!
Found a partner and came up with a story idea
Danced to gypsy music
Made friends outside of the film program
